SCHOOL OF WAR
SUPPORT THE REBELLION
March 2027
A theatrical horror/comedy about young people who have had enough of ruling class adults despoiling the place.
In a dystopian world, the adult ruling class abandons all social responsibility to burn the future, leaving generations of exploited children to adapt to a brutal curriculum of survival. Spanning one hundred years, School of War follows children who have been abandoned by their protectors: the adults who traded care for conscription, drafting their youth into domestic and biological servitude. The ultimate battle isn’t in a war zone, but in the hearts and minds of a discarded generation piecing together a new future from a lost past. The ‘school of war’ is a culture of civilisational brutality and engineered amnesia that leaves its citizens for dead, and longing for something like a rebirth.
And it’s very funny!
The young people use cunning, passion and sheer grunt-power to deliver more than a glimmer of hope in the end.
Collaborating with award-winning playwright Tom Holloway, our creative team and the young people we work with will develop School of War using our unique devising methodology. The process allows young people to articulate their grief, rage, love, and their hopes for the future. From interviews and improvisations their perspectives will be distilled into a living script, realised with Asanti Dance Theatre, whose untamed rhythms and choreography will transcend the spoken word.
