Daniel Newell (they/them)

WORKSHOP ARTIST

Daniel Newell is a non-binary dancer, theatre maker, performance artist, facilitator and graduate of the Victorian College of the Arts. 

Having performed across 20 countries, highlights include working with ABC’s ‘You Can’t Ask That’, Melbourne Festival, Dance Massive, Arts House, Sydney Opera House, Bollywood Film, Strange Fruit Productions, Shelley Lasica, Deanne Butterworth, Stephanie Lake, Phillip Adams BalletLab, Taylor Mac, Rafael Bonachela and Kylie Minogue. 

Interested in dance, somatic practise, improvisational modalities, experimental performance art and theatre, Daniel has created solid prominence within Australia’s alternative performing arts ecology. They have worked with Children and Young People between Melbourne\Naarm and rural Victoria for the past eight years teaching dance and within City of Melbourne’s Signal and Artplay. 

‘Blanca’, a film Daniel choreographed was screened at Cannes Film Festival in 2015. Recent studio resident at Testing Grounds, they hold strong advocacy for community access and LGBTQIA+ awareness and diversity – highlighting the creation of new and engaging performance perspectives. Daniel is the creator of Dandrogyny.
