Twelfth Night
Presented by JMC Academy, the Trimester 2 Acting Company
Directed by Mark Yeates
Twelfth Night by William Shakespeare is a lively romantic comedy filled with mistaken identities, disguises, and tangled love triangles. After a shipwreck separates twins Viola and Sebastian, Viola disguises herself as a young man, Cesario, to serve Duke Orsino. As she becomes entangled in Orsino’s pursuit of the countess Olivia, unexpected emotions begin to surface, creating a web of unrequited love and comic confusion. Meanwhile, a subplot involving the pompous steward Malvolio adds mischief and satire, as he is tricked into believing Olivia loves him. Blending humour with moments of melancholy, the play explores themes of love, identity, and the fluid nature of gender. With its witty dialogue and memorable characters, Twelfth Night remains one of Shakespeare’s most enduring and entertaining works, inviting audiences to laugh while reflecting on the complexities of human connection and desire.
