Andrew Doyle lived in Melbourne for twenty years, until he was 40. In that time, he drew it as much as he could, while working as a designer. He lived and worked out of 88 Millswyn St, just down on the corner from here.
He left Melbourne for Bangkok in 1996, returning to Australia in 2011 and settling with family in Bega, NSW. He continues to visit Melbourne as much as he can, specifically to Millswyn St, staying with friends, just on the other corner.
This exhibition is a celebration of the two decades spent in this great city, that he still calls home. So step back in time with these pictures, and enjoy Melbourne during a golden time. You may even want to take a piece of the action home with you.
This series of drawings was inspired by the Heidelberg school and their cigarette box paintings exhibited in Melbourne in 1889. Thanks goes to St Martins Youth Art Centre for their support and encouragement of this project.
The artist will be in attendance.
Admission to this exhibition is free.
