This year, the theme of Hatched is Break. Fresh. Ground, with wildly different interpretations from each of the groups. From medieval Shakespearian clowns to a surreal moment in a teacher’s lounge, each of these 10-minute pieces will be entirely original and reflect the creativity, artistry, and humour of our young people and the artists who collaborate with them.
Some groups may springboard off just one of those words and some might be responding to the whole phrase. It’s always exciting to see the diversity of interpretations. Teens from Northcote and South Yarra collaborate with their workshop artists to make something unique to each group. The young people get valuable professional and technical experience with lights, sound and video and the whole effort is put together by our Artistic Associate Alice Qin, more than a dozen artists and the St Martins core team.
For some young people, this will be the culmination of their very first year (maybe term, at St Martins), whilst others have been attending our workshops since the age of 5! Come along, be part of our beautiful community, and be inspired, astonished and moved by the perspectives of our incredible young theatre makers.
