Cyrano de Bergerac is a romantic drama about a gifted poet and swordsman, Cyrano, who is insecure about his large nose. Though he loves his cousin Roxane, he believes she could never love him back. When Roxane falls for the handsome but inarticulate Christian, Cyrano helps him woo her by writing beautiful letters on his behalf. Roxane unknowingly falls in love with Cyrano’s words, not Christian himself. The play explores themes of inner versus outer beauty, unspoken love, and self-sacrifice, culminating in a poignant revelation of Cyrano’s true feelings too late for love to be fulfilled.
