Percussionist and composer Elissa’s sound-art works play internationally in festivals and cultural institutions across Europe and Australasia. A 2x nominee for Australian Jazz Work of the Year with Clare Shannon, and leader, composer of world-jazz States of Play. Recently Elissa’s work Forgotten Songs of Flight in duo with cellist Caerwen Martin performed at National Opera Center (NYC, New York) (2017). Elissa enjoys long-held collaborations with theatre director Bagryana Popov, with theatre-makers Margaret Mills and Susan Bamford Caleo, with visual artist Gabby O’Connor, and with video artist Michael Carmody, collaborating across various projects for over 20 years with each. This year Elissa’s sound art works have exhibited at MADATAC festival (Madrid, Spain), and Elissa is a current composer-recipient of the APRA AMCOS Art Music Fund for her Gene Tree Project (2018-2022) a large-scale work inspired by climate science in partnership with Artistic Director, Nadja Kostich and St Martin’s Youth Performing Arts Centre. Elissa’s music outfit, Gene Tree Ensemble, opened EXTRASENSORY at the Parliament of Victoria for National Science Week and the Royal Society of Victoria.
