This one time at St Martins... I taught a comedy course and was absolutely blown away, everyone in the office was so welcoming to me - and the kids were fantastic! By that I don't just mean it was about being a high standard or really talented (even though they were) but it was also about - they were really ready to learn, they really wanted to try stuff out, and that's really exciting for a teacher. I felt that St Martins was a very welcoming place, and there are so many places in the world that don't feel very welcoming, school can be like that sometimes, but St Martins was amazing.
A story about a moment, big or small
The first commercial I ever did on television, I was also performing in the Bell Shakespeare Company's school shows. So I was going out to schools every day doing shows for like 300 kids. And it was a 6-month job. In the middle of that, I got a commercial for sanitary pads - and it was a very funny one. I played a really sassy lady who plays tennis and has her period -and talks about her sanitary pads. I thought there would be a moment when people would recognise you in the street - and that would happen - but imagine going out to 200 kids, and at the end in question time their hands would shoot up and they go, "are you in that sanitary pad ad?"
We had two current St Martins young people, Eve & Henry, flip the script and quiz the Quizmaster - bringing together two generations of St Martins in celebration of our 40th birthday! Watch below:
